combating disinformation.

In April 2020, during the height of COVID-19 pandemic in Maryland, Republican Delegates were posting polls on their facebook pages to ask Marylander’s if the State should Re-open or not.

Delegate Kathy Szeliga, a member of the Health and Government Operations Committee, posted the poll in order to gauge the opinions of her constituents, presumably to inform any vote she may have regarding the re-open.

Our Maryland mobilized our followers online to make sure the poll was representative of all Marylanders, not just Republicans.

At first the poll was overwhelmingly in favor of reopening, which could have fed into some disinformation around the true picture of COVID-19’s impact on Maryland.

After Mobilizing Our Marylanders, we were able to flip the poll and create a more fair data point for use.
